“I Talk like a River” – Prints of the picture book illustrations by Canadian illustrator Sydney Smith
Close-ups contrast with sweeping panoramas: This almost cinematic sequence of images consists of a multitude of watercolors that visualize the poetic density of the text “I Talk like a River” by Canadian author Jordan Scott. Sydney Smith’s illustrations tell the extraordinary story of a boy who fights his stutter and manages to free himself from his isolation.
The exhibition will be shown from March 2 to April 30, 2022 in the Ring Gallery of the Central Library on the 2nd floor during regular opening hours.

“Like Water Like Words Like Me”
Musical reading to accompany the picture book cinema “I Talk like a River”.
Churning, swirling, tumbling down, splashing, … Actor Christian Bergmann and percussionist David Gutfleisch interpret the story of a little boy who finds his language with words, water sounds and drums. Readings will be from the book “I Talk like a River” by Jordan Scott and Sydney Smith. The poetry of the story and the almost cinematic illustrations become a picture-sound-space experience in the performance.
In cooperation with jazzahead! and the Thienemann-Esslinger publishing house. The events are supported by the Embassy of Canada
